Kars4Kids Gives Away Special Comics to Kids

Kars4Kids, the national car-donation program that benefits children, and Newark Beth Israel Children’s Hospital in Newark, NJ, will be distributing a generous, unique donation from the estate of Dave Cockrum, co-creator of Marvel Comics’ popular X-Men series. The donated comics were part of Cockrum’s personal collection.

“My husband loved to help people—he was generous to a fault,” said Paty Cockrum, widow of the popular artist and creator who died in 2006 from complications resulting from diabetes. “Dave was extremely happy that the characters he created—such as Storm, Colossus and Nightcrawler—became a part of the childhood memories of millions of children. He knew that was his legacy. Dave was also an avid comic book collector. I’m delighted that kids in need will benefit from his personal collection.”

The comics will be given out on February 19 (snow date: February 26) at 10 am to children who are hospitalized.

Kars4Kids is a national organization providing for the spiritual, emotional and practical needs of children from impoverished or dysfunctional families. The national, 501(c)3, non-profit organization was established in 2000.

Cash for Clunkers Watch

It's old news now, but certainly interesting: Kars4Kids, the leading national car donation program, released the findings of its analysts in “Cash for Clunkers Watch,” a regular feature at its website that examined the effectiveness of Obama's Cash for Clunkers program.

“Since its inception, Kars4Kids carefully monitored the effectiveness of the Cash for Clunkers program and we’ve been shocked by its inefficiencies,” said Clifford Meth, spokesman for the organization. “We discovered that the federal government only reimbursed auto dealers for 2% of the claims they submitted through the program. Moreover, nearly 80% of the applications were rejected for a minor oversight.”

Kars4kids analysts believed that Cash for Clunkers was likely drawing money from other consumer purchases, and that it would likely undermine future car sales. In short, the increase in car sales from the program were likely borrowing sales from the future. To read more, click here.

When Should You Donate Your Car?

Most people are unware of how the car-donation process works and what its benefits are.

Making a car donation isn't just a cice thing--its smart. A car that has zero value to you can still make a huge impact on the lives of others.

A charity like Kars4Kids auctions off most of the cars they receive as donations. Auction houses often waive their fees for donated cars, and some purchasers are willing to pay a little more, so the proceeds that benefit the charity may be considerably more than you would have gotten from, say, Craig's List.

Kars4Kids Sponsors 500+ Kids for Summer Camp

Kars4Kids reported that it sent more than 500 children to summer camp this summer.

This summer, your generous donation made it possible for more than 500 children to attend summer camp. Think about what that means: Hundreds of children whose parents could not afford summer camp were spared the pain of spending summer in the city while more fortunate ones went away to camp; hundreds of children just like yours were given an opportunity to swim and ride horses, to learn about nature and to feel cared for.
Chicago Magazine notes that summer camps often run as high as $10K for a full 8-week summer session--but fewer families than ever have the ability to provide these types of programs for their kids. Nevertheless, summer camp is far more than just a fun annual ritual; it's the ideal way for kids to build important skills, gain self-confidence and grow.

Summer camp exposes children to new and exciting activities, making it possible for them to develop skills they've never had before. For most kids, camp is their first opportunity to do things like go boating, camping or horseback riding.

Camp also builds self-esteem. Experiencing all these new things, and learning to master new skills, gives campers a sense of accomplishment, which helps them develop pride, self-confidence, and self-esteem. And while kids are accomplishing all these things, they're also receiving support from new friends and role models. At camp, kids also learn self-reliance, responsibility, and independence; they're on their own, away from their families for the first time. And at the same time, they're gaining environmental awareness from hands-on experiences instead of books.

Of course, being in a beautiful environment that's so different from their community isn't the worst thing either. For many children, camp memories will remain among their fondest for the rest of their lives.

Kars4Kids make these experiences possible for so many children each summer!

Another Satisfied Customer

Michelle O writes:

Thank you for making this process seamless and easy. I contacted the tow company in the afternoon to let them know my vehicle was ready for pick up and they were out that night. I was surprised they responded so quickly.

When I was searching for a way to get rid of my unused vehicle, I had no idea what to do or where to look. I took a chance with your website and was not disappointed. The process could not have been any easier. Thanks again.
