Kars4Kids reported that it sent more than 500 children to summer camp this summer.
Summer camp exposes children to new and exciting activities, making it possible for them to develop skills they've never had before. For most kids, camp is their first opportunity to do things like go boating, camping or horseback riding.
Camp also builds self-esteem. Experiencing all these new things, and learning to master new skills, gives campers a sense of accomplishment, which helps them develop pride, self-confidence, and self-esteem. And while kids are accomplishing all these things, they're also receiving support from new friends and role models. At camp, kids also learn self-reliance, responsibility, and independence; they're on their own, away from their families for the first time. And at the same time, they're gaining environmental awareness from hands-on experiences instead of books.
Of course, being in a beautiful environment that's so different from their community isn't the worst thing either. For many children, camp memories will remain among their fondest for the rest of their lives.

Think about what that means: Hundreds of children whose parents could not afford summer camp were spared the pain of spending summer in the city while more fortunate ones went away to camp; hundreds of children just like yours were given an opportunity to swim and ride horses, to learn about nature and to feel cared for.Chicago Magazine notes that summer camps often run as high as $10K for a full 8-week summer session--but fewer families than ever have the ability to provide these types of programs for their kids. Nevertheless, summer camp is far more than just a fun annual ritual; it's the ideal way for kids to build important skills, gain self-confidence and grow.
